GuideF-Gas Certification and Supply-Only Orders

What F-Gas certification is, why it's a legal requirement for handling refrigerant, and what it means for a supply-only air conditioning order.

Why F-Gas certification is a legal requirement

Air conditioning systems use fluorinated gases (F-Gases) as refrigerant — potent greenhouse gases if released into the atmosphere. UK law requires that only an engineer holding a valid F-Gas certification handles refrigerant in an air conditioning system, covering everything from installation to servicing and decommissioning.

What this means for a full installation

When we carry out a full installation, our own REFCOM F-Gas certified engineers handle every part of the job, so this is entirely taken care of.

What this means for supply-only orders

Supply-only orders ship the equipment to you, to be fitted by your own installer — and that installer must hold a valid F-Gas certification. Before we dispatch supply-only equipment, we ask for your installer's name, contact details and F-Gas certification number, so this can be confirmed.

If you don't already have a certified installer lined up, we'd recommend a full installation instead, so our own certified team handles the whole job.

FAQ

What is REFCOM?

REFCOM is the UK's leading certification body for the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump industry, maintaining a public register of F-Gas certified companies and engineers.

What happens if my installer's F-Gas certification can't be confirmed?

We won't dispatch supply-only equipment until certification is confirmed. This protects you as much as it protects us — an uncertified installation is both illegal and potentially unsafe.
